The extremely limited Cracker Barrels is the result of winemaker Richard Freebairn selecting up to 4 barrels which he considers to be of the highest quality or ‘Crackers’ each vintage.
The 2015 vintage Cracker Barrels has been selected from a single parcel of Shiraz and Cabernet from Jones Block, the barrels are 100% French with no new oak. The wine has terrific intensity and depth of flavour, supported by subtle oak which makes this powerful Shiraz with small blend of Cabernet a pleasure to drink now and well into the future.

A fantastic wine to drink in the next five years, however, careful cellaring of 10-30 years will be rewarded
2015 vintage was one of the shortest and earliest ever recorded in McLaren Vale. Until February we experienced one of the coolest and driest summers since 1980. However, February warmed up and we saw early ripening of the grapes. This early ripening, as well as long periods without rain, made for fantastic colour and intense flavours at harvest. A great year for red and white varieties.
The extremely limited Cracker Barrels is the result of winemaker Richard Freebairn tasting through 500+ single vineyard barrels in order to identify the four or five that are deemed to be of the highest quality; the 'Cracker Barrels' of that vintage. He's looking for the ultimate in wine and oak integration. The chosen barrels are then blended together. A single vineyard wine perhaps, or a multi-site wine made up of single vineyard barrels; the winemaker and vintage will make the ultimate decision.
93 points - "Generous red of dark fruit and light herbal characters, highilghting clearly the personalities of both grape varieties brought together in this 'classic Australian blend'. There's some weet turned earth notes, mint and brambles and dark pepper."
Medium to deep red/purple colour. The bouquet is plummy, earthy and meaty, with an animal overtone, the palate lively and red-fruited, with mulberry nuances and soft tannins.
