The 2007 Tempranillo was the first release of this single vineyard wine, with only 100 dozen cases made. We’ve been trialling a number of different grape varieties that perform well in warmer climates and use less water. At this stage, Tempranillo shows great promise for the region. Being a lighter style the wine is approachable and soft with attractive aromatics.

Vintage: | 2020 posed many challenges throughout Australia. Another intense drought year through the growing season was followed by one of the most devastating bushfire seasons this country has ever seen. Fortunately McLaren Vale was largely unaffected by this devastation and the early signs indicate 2020 to be a very special vintage; one to savour. Moderate weather throughout the harvest period, combined with lower yields, allowed the flavours to develop harmoniously and in balance. Varietal expression was excellent with the wines showing intense flavour without excessive tannin or alcohol. Tempranillo and Graciano are showing lovely plum and pepper characters and it will be intriguing to see how they develop after time in bottle. |

Vinification: | The grapes where hand pick and selectively harvested at optimum flavour and sugar equilibrium. After light destemming, we fermented the must in small batch open ferments. After 10 –14 days of a hand plunging and pump overs we gently pressed our hand picked parcel into new and mature French oak barriques for maturation of six months. The second parcel was pressed to a stainless steel tank and kept fresh for six months prior to blending and bottling. |

It's delightfully fruited and fragrant on the nose showing sweet plum, raspberry, clove and almond characters. The palate offers succulent fruit flavours and fleshy texture, well supported by silky tannins, making it splendidly approachable and drinkable. At its best: now to 2026.
