2021 was one of those dream vintages that don’t come along every year; cool, refreshing nights and dreamy, sun-kissed days without any extended stretches of intense heat. After a warmer than usual November there were only four days above 40 degrees. It was mainly dry throughout the ripening season with the odd spattering of just enough rain to keep the grapes beautifully plump, juicy and full of bright fruit flavours and time to dry out in between so disease pressure was low. The gentle undulation between these varying temperatures and perfectly healthy canopies allowed us to really ponder picking times, spending plenty of time out in the vineyard tasting grapes getting the timing of picking just right. The generous harvest has rewarded us with delightfully delicate fruit and varietal characters, with each variety singing its own tune. Natural acids are in perfect balance and the smooth, sensuous tannins completed by an epic energetic vibration that we can’t wait to share with you.

    • Vineyard Notes

Shiraz Thomas Block EJ, Cabernet Jones Block Don’s Corner

    • Colour

      Brassica Black Angel

    • Bouquet

A match made in paradise, the honeymoon of grape pairing. Bright and nuanced fruit from Shiraz and opulence and length from the Cabernet Sauvignon, a Baroque wedding with a spitz of Dior’s Poison. Black pepper, clove and brown cardamom chai is balanced with inky blackcurrants and dusty sandalwood with earthy undertones.

    • Palate

Building like a suspense thriller, louder and louder until the inevitable explosion and post-chaotic calm. Initially chewy, tight and grippy tannins build to a crescendo before mellowing out to hints of biochar, heady musk, dusty sandalwood and a moreish acid touch.

    • Peak Drinking / Cellaring Potential

      GOOD: 2024-2025 - BETTER: 2026-2029 - BEST: 2030-2040

    • Vinification

The Biodynamic Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon single vineyard parcels are hand-picked and fermented separately in small open fermenters, delicately hand plunged and tasted daily until beautiful balance is achieved. After pressing the wine is racked into French oak barriques of varying ages for malolactic fermentation and subsequestnt ageing. After 15 months resting, each barrel is carefully evaluated by our winemaking team to determine the perfect match for this traditional Australian blend.

    • Music Match

Dark Knight — Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard

    • Winemaker

      Ashleigh Seymour
